TheNellcorOxiMaxalgorithmautomaticallyextendstheamountofdatarequiredfor
measuringSpO

andpulseratedependingonthemeasurementconditions.During
normalmeasurementconditionsinthenormalresponsemode,theaveragingtime
is6to7seconds.
Duringdifcultmeasurementconditions,whichcanbecausedbylowperfusion,
motion,ambientlight,electrocautery,otherinterference,oracombinationofthese
factors,theOxiMaxalgorithmautomaticallyextendsthedynamicaveragingtime
requiredbeyond7seconds.
Iftheresultingdynamicaveragingtimeexceeds20seconds,thepulsesearch
conditionwillbeset,whileSpO
2
andpulseratevaluescontinuetobeupdatedevery
second.
Asthemeasurementconditionsbecomeevenmoredifcult,theamountofdata
requiredcontinuestoexpand.Ifdynamicaveragingtimereaches40seconds,the
pulsetimeoutconditionwillbesetandthemodulewillreportazerosaturation
indicatingaloss-of-pulsecondition.

saturationisfrequentlyoutsidethelimitsbutdoesnotremainoutsidethelimitslong
enoughfortheSaturationSecondslimittobereached.Whenthreeormorelimit
violationsoccurwithin60seconds,analarmsoundseveniftheSaturationSeconds
limithasnotbeenreached.
NellcorOxiMaxtechnologyusestheSaturationSecondstodecreasethelikelihoodof
falseSpO
2
saturationalarmscausedbymotionartifact.Itdoesnotapplytopulserate.
Withtraditionalpulseoximetryalarmmanagement,upperandloweralarmlimitsare
set.Duringmonitoring,assoonasalimitisviolated,analarmisgenerated.With
SaturationSecondsalarmmanagement,upperandloweralarmlimitsaresetinthe
samewayastraditionalalarmmanagement.IfthealarmpriorityisEscalating,the
alarmprioritylimitautomaticallychangestoMedium.
ASaturationSecondslimitisalsoset.ThisallowsmonitoringofSpO
2
saturation
outsidethesetlimitsforaperiodoftime(countvalue)beforeanalarmsounds.The
