andmonitorgasesbeingdeliveredtothepatientandexhaledbythepatientthrough
thebreathingcircuit.ThemodulesconsistofaninfraredsensorformeasuringCO
2
andN

O,andparamagneticO
2
sensor.TheE-sCAiO,E-sCAiOV,E-CAiO,E-CAiOVand
E-CAiOVXmodulesalsoincludeanestheticagentsmeasurement.
Thegassamplingsystemsamplesthemeasuredairtothemodule,andremoveswater
andimpuritiesfromit.Thepumpofthegassamplingsystemdrawsgasataxedrate
throughthesamplinglineintothegasmeasuringunits.Thegasentersthemodule
throughthewatertrap,whereitisdividedintotwoows,amainowandasideow.
Themainowgoesintotheanalyzers.Thisowisseparatedfromthepatientsidebya
hydrophobiclter.Thesideowcreatesaslightsub-atmosphericpressurewithinthe
watertrap,whichcausesuidremovedbythehydrophobicltertocollectinthebottle.
Afterthemeasurement,gasisexhaustedthroughthesamplegasoutconnector.
NOTE
ThegassamplingsystemoftheE-COVXandE-CAiOVX
modulesdiffersfromthatoftheothercompactairway
modulesandtheCARESCAPErespiratorymodules.Anumber
ofowrestrictorshavebeenchangedtocreateabigger
pressuredifferencewithambientpressureinthegassensors.
Thesampleowis,however,approximatelythesame(200
ml/min).Alargerpressuredifferencemakesthedeformations
ofthegasconcentrationcurveslesssensitivetohigh
variationsoftheairwaypressure.
