●Startmonitoringbeforetheadministrationofamusclerelaxantdrug(butafterthe
inductionofsleepingeneralanesthesia)topreventvoluntarymusclecontraction
andtensionfrominterferingwiththereferencesearch.
●Whenplacingtheelectrodes,makesurethattheydonottoucheachother.
●Donotplaceelectrodesonareaswithexcessivebodyhairorlesions.
●Iftheelectrodesareplacedincorrectly,wrongnervesarestimulatedandthis
causeswrongmuscleresponse.
●Whenmultiplenervesarestimulated,themeasuredresponsemaybeaffected
byelectricalactivityofothermuscles.
●Ifthestimulationelectrodesareplacedveryclosetothepalmofthehand,the
musclesarestimulateddirectlybythestimulationpulses.
●Donotapplystimulationacrossorthroughthehead,directlyontheeyes,covering
themouth,onthefrontofneck(especiallyoverthecarotidsinus),orfromelectrodes
placedonthechestandtheupperbackorcrossingovertheheart.
●Ifthecurrentistoostrong,itmaystimulatethemusclestoomuch.
●Movingortouchingthepatientduringmeasurementmaycauseincorrectresults.
●Forsafeextubation,theTOF%shouldbehigherthan90.Alsoassessotherclinical
signs.
