Thevelocityofgasowisobtainedwhenthedynamicpressureismeasuredbythe
twohollowtubes(1and2).Oninspiration,gasmovesfromtheanesthesiamachineor
ventilatortothepatientbypoint1whichmeasuresthetotalpressure,andatthesame
timethepressureattube2ismeasuredasthestaticpressure.Thestaticpressureat
2issubtractedfromthetotalpressureat1togivethedynamicpressure.Dynamic
pressureisproportionaltothevelocityofgasow.D-lite(+)/Pedi-lite(+)isdesignedto
workinbothdirections;duringexpirationtheprocessisreversed.Gassamplesfor

Oneendofthesensorhasa15mmmaleconnectorforaY-piececonnection,while
thepatientendconsistsofa22mmmaleconnectorfortheventilationmaskand
aconcentric15mmfemaleconnectorfortheendotrachealtube.Adisposable
double-lumentubeconductstheowsignalasapressuredifferencetothepressure
sensorinsidethemonitor.Thismeasurementmethodmeansthatthereisnogasow
inthedouble-lumentube,butonlypressurepick-up.Arespiratorygassamplingline
connectedtotheD-lite(+)/Pedi-lite(+)completesthemonitoringsystem.Gassampling
isimportanttoenablecompensationoftheeffectofdifferentgasviscositiesontidal
andminutevolumecalculations.
