Manyfunctionaltestersandpatientsimulatorshavebeendesignedtointerfacewith
thepulseoximeter’sexpectedcalibrationcurves,andmaybesuitableforusewith
thepulseoximetermonitorandsensors.Notalldevices,however,areadaptedfor
usewithalldigitalcalibrationsystems.Whilethiswillnotaffectuseofthesimulator
forverifyingsystemfunctionality,displayedSpO
2
measurementvaluesmaydiffer
fromthesettingofthedevice.Foraproperlyfunctioningmonitor,thisdifference
willbereproducibleovertimeandfrommonitortomonitorwithintheperformance
specicationsofthetestdevice.
Ifaparticularcalibrationcurveisaccurateforthecombinationofapulseoximeter
monitorandsensor,afunctionaltestdevicecanmeasurethecontributionofa
monitortothetotalerrorofamonitor/sensorsystem.Thefunctionaltestdevicecan
thenmeasurehowaccuratelyaparticularpulseoximetermonitorisreproducing
thatcalibrationcurve.
