Pulseratemeasurementisbasedontheopticaldetectionof
aperipheralowpulseandthereforemaynotdetectcertain
arrhythmias.Thepulseoximetershouldnotbeusedasa
replacementorsubstituteforECG-basedarrhythmiaanalysis.

Cable/sensoraftercare:
●Donotreusesensorsintendedforsinglepatientuse.
●Donotsterilizesensorsorpatientcablesbyirradiation,
steam,orethyleneoxide.
●Cleanthesurfaceoftheprobebeforeandaftereach
patientuse.

measurementaccuracy.

valueshasbeenlinkedtothepresenceofpoorsignalstrength
orartifactduetopatientmotionduringsignalanalysis.This
conditionismostlikelytobeencounteredwhenthemonitoris
usedonneonatesorinfants.Thesesameconditionsinadults
donotimpacttheSpO
2
valuestothesameextent.
Werecommendtheapplicationofthefollowingcriteriawhen
usingthepulseoximetryfunctiononneonatesandinfants:
●Theperipheralpulserate(PPR)asdeterminedbytheSpO
2
functionmustbewithin10%oftheheartrate,and
●TheSpO
2
signalstrengthshouldbeadequate.Thisis
indicatedbythedisplayoftwoorthreeasterisksorthe
absenceoftheLowsignalqualitymessage.
Proceduresordevicespreviouslyappliedinyourfacilityfor
SpO
2
monitoringshouldbeusedintheeventtheSpO
2
value
fromthemonitorcannotbevalidatedbytheabovecriteria.
