Software
Cross-hairs jumps vertically when
trying to acquire lock on target.
Run tracker collimation to set correct tracker values.
Reason: Incorrect vertical tracker angle reference. The jump is
caused by a step in the servo set point value when the Tracker
signals are converted into angle position.
The tracker avoids a target as soon as
it is in within sight.
Run HA/VA collimation.
Reason: The vertical zero is not set to straight up. When this is
not done the instruments can not determine what is up and what
is down. When up and down is mixed up also left and right gets
wrong. Therefore the instruments might do the opposite move
when trying to lock on to a target.
Electrical
The tracker is only able to lock on
target when sighting very close to the
target. It is not possible to lock on
target from a specific quadrant or side
of the target.
Replace OTA, then OTC board to see if it solves the problem. If
not OTR board needs to be replaced (Level 4).
Reason: It is either a problem with the detector on OTR or the
differential calculations on OTA. If it is only possible to gain
lock when pointing very close to the target the most plausible
cause is a broken coarse detector.
Survey Controller reports instrument
error when turning on autolock. It is
not possible to track passive targets.
Replace transmitter unit.
Reason: The most plausible cause is that the laser safety has
been triggered, i.e. the laser fuse has blown.
Mechanical / Optical
Tracker has problem finding targets
when searching. It is harder to snap on
to a target when approaching from
one side compared to the other.
Realign the tracker transmitter.
Reason: The tracker transmitter lobe is not centered to the cross-
hairs. In this way the target area is not symmetrical illuminated.
This causes the prism not to be illuminated even if it is within
visible range of the detector.
High Precision only:
Not possible to lock onto passive
targets.
Try to move the tracker shutter by turning the laser pointer on
and off.
Reason: There is a mechanical laser safety protection installed
in High Precision EDM. This is a plastic part acting as a shutter
for the tracker transmitter. When the EDM is in reflector mode
the shutter is open and when in DR mode the shutter is closed.
The tracker is not working because this plastic part is blocking
the tracker transmitter. This is due to wrong position set by
software or by a malfunction shutter function.
