Checking and adjusting
valve clearance
Note
For reasons of clarity, the
figures show an engine block
removed from the frame.
Remove the retaining screws (B) and
remove the alternator side inspection
cover (A).
Install tool part no. 88713.0123 to
turn the crankshaft.
Turn the crankshaft until the
transmission pulley mark (B) matches
the casing mark (C).
Remove the timing inspection plug
from the alternator cover. Look
through the hole and check that the
mark on the flywheel and the
reference mark (D) on the casing are
correctly aligned for each cylinder.
Set the degree wheel of tool part no.
88713.0123 to zero. The horizontal
cylinder is at TDC during the
combustion stroke, i.e. the correct
position for checking valve
clearances.
To measure valve clearance in the
vertical cylinder, rotate the crankshaft
counterclockwise through 270° from
the position it was when you
measured opening clearance. This
will bring the vertical cylinder at TDC
during the combustion stroke.

Note
Per maggiore chiarezza nelle
immagini è rappresentato un blocco
motore rimosso dal telaio.
Smontare il coperchio di ispezione (A)
lato alternatore rimuovendo le viti (B).
Montare l'attrezzo cod. 88713.0123
per ruotare l’albero motore.
Ruotare l’albero motore in modo che
il segno (E) sulla puleggia di rinvio sia
allineato con quello sul carter (C).
Rimuovere il tappo di ispezione fase
sul coperchio alternatore e, attraverso
il foro controllare che il contrassegno
sul volano e l'indice fisso (D) sul
coperchio siano allineati, per ogni
cilindro.
Azzerare il goniometro dell'attrezzo
(G) 88713.0123: il cilindro orizzontale
è al punto morto superiore in fase di
scoppio e quindi si può procedere alla
verifica del gioco valvole su questo
cilindro.
Per effettuare l’operazione sul cilindro
verticale, ruotare l'albero motore di
270° in senso antiorario dalla posizione
in cui si trova per la verifica gioco di
apertura. In questo modo si porta il
cilindro verticale al punto morto
superiore in fase di scoppio.
