Theory of Operation
Imaging Unit
The Imaging Unit is a customer replaceable item that carries out the charging,
development, transfer, and cleaning steps in the print process (see “Print Process”
on page 2-2).
The Imaging Unit consists of the following items:
Developers — Each of the four developers includes the augers that distribute
the toner and the magnet roller that applies toner to the drum to develop the
latent image.
Drums — Each drum is given a latent image to which toner is applied by the
developer. The resulting toner image is transferred to the paper.
CRUM — Information specific to the Imaging Unit is stored in the CRUM.
Erase Lamp (LED) — The light of the LED passes through the lens of the
Developer, illuminates the drum, and eliminates the charge on the drum.
