ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The refrigeration cycle of vehicle air conditioning consists of the compressor, the
condenser, the
receiver-dryer, the expansion valve and the evaporator. When the refrigerant is
circulated in the A/C
system, the heat of the passenger compartment is drawn away by the evaporator
and released outside
the vehicle by the condenser.
Refrigeration cycle (see drawing):
(1) The compressor, engaged through the drive belt and electromagnetic clutch,
discharges high
temperature and high pressure refrigerant to the condenser.
(2) In the condenser, the gaseous refrigerant is condensed into liquid refrigerant
and gives up a lot of
energy to the outside air.
(3) The liquid refrigerant then flows into the receiver dryer which stops the dirt and
removes the
moisture contained in the refrigerant.
(4) The expansion valve changes the liquid refrigerant into a low temperature and
low pressure form.
(5) This cold refrigerant flows to the evaporator. Vaporizing the liquid in the evapora-
tor takes heat
from the warm air stream passing through the evaporator. All the liquid will change
into a gaseous
refrigerant in the evaporator and only gaseous refrigerant goes into the compressor.
The process is then repeated again.
