Removal
1. Remove the crankshaft gear as described in
Removing the crankshaft gear.
2. Remove the crankshaft pulley as described in the work descrip-
tion Removing the pulley.
3. Remove the oil sump, oil suction pipe with
strainer and the oil pump.
4. Remove the pistons and connecting rods as
described in Removing connecting rods and
pistons.
5. Remove the crankshaft bearing caps and
main bearings.
6. Lift out the crankshaft.
Checking and grinding
- Measure the crankshaft journals. Use a
micrometer to measure two diameters at right
angles to each other.
- If either of these diameters is lower than the
minimum indicated limit, regrinding of the
crankshaft should be considered.
- Consideration must also be given to oil
pressure, which is in turn affected by such
things as main bearing and crankshaft bearing
wear.
The main bearings and bearing caps are marked and must be
retted in the same place.
