170 IBM System Storage DS3000: Introduction and Implementation Guide
Figure 8-54 manual Drive Selection - Calculate Capacity
4. If you are satisfied with your selections click Next. Otherwise you can reselect drives to
change the configuration. After each change, click Calculate Capacity again to
recalculate the array size.
5. After creating the array, create one or more logical drives in the array. This is the same
process as described in “Free capacity” on page 167.
8.4 Create FlashCopy Logical Drives
A FlashCopy logical drive is a point-in-time image of a logical drive. It is the logical equivalent
of a complete physical copy, but it is created much more quickly than a physical copy. It also
requires less disk space. On the other hand, it is not a real physical copy, because it does not
copy all the data. Consequently, if the source logical drive is damaged, the FlashCopy logical
drive cannot be used for recovery.
Note: You see there are a number of factors that influence how arrays are created. To get
an optimal balance between capacity, performance and redundancy we recommend you to
use the automatic configuration as described in “Drive Selection Automatic
(Recommended)” on page 163). However, sometimes it is necessary to build particular
configurations to fulfill special requirements using the manual process described. We only
recommend this if you have a good understanding of storage subsystems.
