The firmware of the HBA is now updated successfully - repeat the same steps, but this time
select the downloaded boot code image. The Emulex HBA does not need to reboot to update
the firmware or the boot code.
19.6 What to do if the boot path is lost?
Remember while configuring the HBA we enabled the Adapter BIOS on one adapter port
(19.3.2, “Enable adapter BIOS”). The Blade is always only able to boot from one port, since at
the start of the boot process, the multipath driver is not loaded, so only one device is allowed
to access the logical drive. This is normally no problem, but if the boot path fails, you will not
be able to reboot the Blade. Figure 19-42 shows a situation where the boot path has failed.
This can for example occur because of a broken cable. So long as the system is still running,
there is no problem, because the redundant connection can be used to access the logical
drive over the second path.
