Description
The failsafe digital input is suitable for connecting the following devices:
• safety sensors, e.g. emergency stop control devices and light curtains.
• pre-processing devices, e.g. failsafe control systems and safety relays.
• Sourcing/sourcing or sourcing/sinking failsafe digital outputs
Conditions for quiescent current in the P and M channels:
– The quiescent current must be identical.
– The quiescent current must not be greater than 0.5mA.
The converter expects signals with the same state at its failsafe digital input:
• 1 signal: The safety function is deselected.
• 0 signal: The safety function is selected.
Table 7-28 Achievable category according to ENISO13849‑1
Category Supply voltage Application Result
Cat 3 No use of the converter
supply voltage
Local use, e.g.
Emergency Stop
The converter self-test detects errors in
the circuits of the failsafe digital input.
Cat 4 Exclusive use of the sup‐
ply voltage from termi‐
nal X130:1 (VS1)
Protected cable
routing, e.g. within
a control cabinet
The converter self-test detects errors in
the circuits of the failsafe digital input.
The self-test of the connected cables with
internally specied dark pulses detects the
following errors:
• Short-circuit to ground
• Short-circuit to 24V supply voltage
Simultaneous use of
both supply voltages
from terminals X130:1
(VS 1) and X130:5 (VS 2)
Unprotected cable
routing, e.g. cable
carrier or free rout‐
ing
The converter self-test detects errors in
the circuits of the failsafe digital input.
The self-test of the connected cables with
internally specied staggered dark pulses
detects the following errors:
• Short-circuit to ground
• Short-circuit to 24V supply voltage
• Cross circuit
No use of the converter
supply voltage, but with
test pulses of the con‐
nected external device
Depending on the connected external device
Example
The following examples correspond to Performance Level (PL) e according to ENISO13849-1
and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 according to IEC61508 and IEC62061.
The information relating to PL and SIL applies in respect of the converter. The external
connection of the converter is to be assessed on the customer side.
The maximum current of the supply voltages VS1 and VS2 must not be exceeded.
