14.6 Ethernet/IP communication
14.6.1 Ethernet/IP eldbus
Overview
The Ethernet Industrial Protocol (Ethernet/IP) is an open standard for industrial networks used
by the converter to communicate with a higher-level control system.
Requirement
Converter with Ethernet interface X150.
Following selection of EtherNet/IP in the commissioning tool, the power supply must be
switched o and then switched on again or a hardware reset must be performed via p0972.
Description of function
Ethernet/IP, which uses the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP), transfers data as TCP/IP packets.
Ethernet/IP is used to transmit cyclic I/O data and acyclic parameter data.
The higher-level control system accesses converter process data and parameters via
Ethernet/IP objects:
• Cyclic communication of process data with "assembly objects"
• Acyclic communication for writing and reading converter parameters with "class objects"
Ethernet/IP always provides a basic Ethernet functionality:
• Commissioning access
• DCP, for example for setting the IP address
• SNMP for identication
