4.1 Protection of persons from electromagnetic elds
Requirement
WARNING
Negative impact on health from electromagnetic elds
During operation, converters generate electromagnetic elds (EMF). Electromagnetic elds
can have a negative impact on your health and can even cause death.
• As operating company, carefully design workplaces so that workers are protected from
impermissibly strong electromagnetic elds.
• When working close to the converter, carefully comply with the data on electromagnetic
compatibility (EMC) provided in the product documentation.
• Maintain the minimum clearances to the converter.
The converter components are installed according to the EMC guidelines in the technical
documentation:
• Components with degree of protection IP20 are operated inside a metal control cabinet.
• The motor connection cables are shielded.
Protection against electromagnetic elds (EMF) is dened in the following guidelines and
regulations, for example:
• European EMF‑Guideline 2013/35/EU
• 26thBImSchV (German Federal Immission Protection Regulations)
Limit values according to ICNIRP2020 for a workplace are the basis for assessing
electromagnetic elds.
Description
To determine the minimum clearance, the electromagnetic eld of the converter was evaluated
as follows:
• At the pulse frequency, e.g. 4kHz
• At a multiple of the pulse frequency up to a maximum of 100kHz
The following tables contain the evaluation of the electromagnetic elds and the minimum
clearances to the converter components.
