Chapter 42 PIM Commands
The Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) protocol is multicast routing protocol which uses
unicast routing information to perform the multicast forwarding function in the three-layer
network. PIM can operate in dense mode or sparse mode.
42.1 ip multicast-routing
Description
The ip multicast-routing command is used to enable ip multicast routing
function. To disable the ip multicast routing function and delete all the
multicast routing entries, please use no ip multicast-routing command.
Syntax
ip multicast-routing
no ip multicast-routing

Example
Enable the IP multicast routing function globally:

42.2 ip pim (global)
Description
The ip pim command is used to configure PIM mode globally. To disable the
PIM DM or SM mode, please use no ip pim command.
Syntax
ip pim {dense-mode | sparse-mode}
no ip pim [dense-mode | sparse-mode]
Parameter
dense-mode —— Enable PIM with dense mode.
sparse-mode —— Enable PIM with sparse mode.
