Timing
1.
Warm
up
th

ne to the normal operating
temper·
aturc.
2. Connect a tachometer
to
the
eng
in
e.
3. Connect a timing light to hightension cord
of
the
No. 1 spark plug.
4.
Start
the engine and run it at specified idle speed.
On
the vehicle equipped with automatic transmission,
place the selector lever to
"D" position and block
the wheels.
5.
Aim
the timing light
at
the timing indi
ca
to
r pin.
6. Loosen the dis
tr
ibutor lock nut and rotate the
distributor hous
in
g until the reta
rd
timing mark
on the crankshaft pulley aligns with the indicator
pin on the timing chain cover.
7. Tighten the dist
ri
butor
lock
nut
and recheck
th
e
timing.
8.
Disconnect
the
bull
et
connectors from water
thenn
o
switch.
9. Aim the timing light and make sure that the advance
timing aligns
sp
ec
ifications.
Ignition
timing:
8°
± 1° BTDC
at
650
±
50
rpm in
neutral
(with
manual t ransmission)

1. Check
the
ignition coil for cracks or chips.
