Adjusting
valve clearance
:
To
adjust
the
valve clear
ance,
loosen
the
lock
nut
and
insert
the
specified feeler gauge
between
the
rocker
arm
and
the
valve
stem
or
between
the
rock
er
arm
and
the
cam
.
Then,
tum
the
adjusting screw
until
the
prop
er
clea-
rance is
obtained
.
After
adjustment,
tighten
the
lock
nut
securely
and
recheck
the
clearance.

Whenever
the
engine
is
overhauled, warm
up
the
engine
and readjust
the
valve
clearance after tightening
the
cy
li
nder head
bolts
to th
e specified torque.
Rocker arm cover :
1. Apply
rubber
sealer
to
the
semicircular oil seals
and
fit
them,
wi
th
the
"OUT"
mark
facing
out
ward ,
to
the
front
and
rear
of
the
cylinder
head.
2.
Place
the gasket on
the
cylin
der
head.
3.
Install
the
rocker
arm
cover
and
tighten the at-
taching
nut
to
0
.1
5
- 0.2
mĀ·kg
(1.1
- 1.4
ft-lb).

INSTALLATION
Carry
out
the
removing
operatio
ns in
the
reverse
order.

COMPRESSION
PRESSURE

Be
sure
the
engine oil is
at
the
proper
level
and
the
battery
is
properly
charged.
2.
Warm
up
the
engine to
the
normal op
erat
ing
te
m-
perature.
3.
Remove
all
spa
rk
plugs.
4.
Set
the
throttle
valve
to
the
wide
open
p
osition.

Place
a compression gauge
in
the
spark plug hole.
6.
Crank
the
engine with
the
sta
rting
motor
until t
he
pressure reaches a maximum value.
7.
T
est
the
remaining cylinders in
the
s
ame
manner.
8.
The
indicated
com
pression pressures are considered
normal
if
the
lowest reading cylinder
is
wit
hin
75
percent
of
the
highest.
