Air Pump
a. Checking air pump
1. Wann
up
the engine until
it
reaches normal
oper-
ating temperature. Inspect hoses and connections
for leaks. Correct,
if
necessary, before checking
the air pump.
2. Check
the
pump for noise.
If
excessive, replace
the
air
pump.
3.
Check air pump belt tension. Adjust to specification,
if
necessary.
4.
Disconnect
the
hose from
the
air pump outlet.
5. Connect the air pump gauge
set
{49 2113
OIOB)
to the air pump
outlet,
as shown
in
Fig.
lA
- 1.
6.
Install a tachometer to the engine.
7. Run
the
engine
at
1,500
rpm and take a reading
of
the
gauge.
If
the reading
is
below
0.068
kg/cml
(1
psi), replace the pump assembly.

Checking relief valve

Operate the engine
at
idle speed.
2. Disconnect
the
hose from
the
air cleaner.
3.
Check
to
see
that
the
no air should
flow
out
from
the
relief valve.
4.
Increase the engine speed
to
4,500 rpm and make
sure
the
air flows
out
from
the
relief
valve.
If
any defects are found, replace
the
relief valve
and air pump assembly.

c. Replacing air
pump
Remove
in
the
following order.
1.
Inlet and outlet hoses {disconnect)
2. Strap bolt
3.
Air
pump
drive belt
4.
Mounting bolt and
nut
5.
Air pump
Install
the
ai
r
pump
in the reverse order
of
removing
and adjust
the
belt tension
as
described in
Par.
lA-A-2.
