PPP OPTIONAL PARAMETERS
LINK CONTROL PROTOCOL CONFIGURATION
The LCP (Link Control Protocol) provides a method of establishing, configuring,
maintaining, and terminating the PPP connection. In order to be sufficiently
versatile and portable to a wide variety of environments, PPP provides the LCP.
LCP is used to automatically negotiate the authentication protocol, MRU, or to
detect a looped-back link, etc.

Note: LCP negotiation is automatically started when the encapsulation is set to PPP or when
the link is administratively brought up on a PPP interface, or when the MTU is
changed on the interface.

Command (in ICM) Description
ppp lcp negotiate This command is used to initiate the LCP
negotiation on the interface.
Command (in ICM) Description
ppp lcp echo-interval <0-255> This command is used to set the interval
between the LCP echo requests sent.
“0” implies that no echo requests are
sent.
no ppp lcp echo-interval The “no” command sets the echo-
interval to its default value. The default
value is 10 seconds.
