OmniAccess 5740 Unified Services Gateway CLI Configuration Guide
TO SET MAXIMUM RETRY FOR PADIS
EXAMPLE
ALU(config-if GigabitEthernet3/0)# pppoe max-retry 10
ALU(config-if GigabitEthernet3/0)# no pppoe max-retry
Notes:
1. max-retry value for PADR is not user configurable. Default max-retry value for
PADR is set to 5. After the fifth unanswered PADR, client starts sending PADI
again.
2. LCP negotiation is automatically started when the PPPoE session is up. After LCP
negotiation is successful, authentication and IPCP negotiations follow.
3. The default MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) on an interface with PPPoE will
be 1492, as required by RFC 2516.
• PPPoE always negotiates the MTU even if it is user configured.
• After the negotiations, MTU is set to be either user configured MTU or server
suggested MTU, whichever is lesser.
• Irrespective of the MTU value, OmniAccess 5740 USG will still be able to
receive PPPoE packets with payload of 1492 bytes.
Command (in ICM) Description
pppoe max-retry <1-255> This command sets an upper limit on
the number of unanswered PADIs
sent by the PPPoE client before the
session attempt is given up.
If the max-retry value is set to 0, it
keeps sending PADIs till it receives a
PADO.
no pppoe max-retry The ‘no’ command sets the max-retry
value to its default.
The default max-retry value is 0.
