(c) Hold the splice in position with light pressure.
(d) Put the wires in the end of the splice. Refer to Figure 37.
Make sure that:
• The end of the each conductor can be seen in the inspection hole
• The end of the each conductor does not make an overlap with the wire stop
• The wire insulation is not in the crimp barrel
• For AWG 10 and smaller wires, the end of the wire insulation is a maximum of 0.25
inch from the end of the crimp barrel
• For AWG 8 and larger wires, the end of the wire insulation is a maximum of 0.37 inch
from the end of the crimp barrel.
(e) Crimp the splice.
(10) Do Step 6.E.(9) again to assemble the other end of the butt splice.
(11) Align the center of the short sleeve with the center of the splice. Refer to Figure 38.
Make sure that the short sleeve makes a 0.13 inch minimum overlap with each wire insulation on
each end of the splice assembly.
