144 General Service and Replacing FRUs
7 Create a list of parts that you need to add, remove, or replace, and determine the order in which you
plan to service them.
8 Order any necessary parts. Table 10
on page 145 contains a complete listing of all CRUs and FRUs.
Do not order replacement parts unless the existing parts fail to respond to all troubleshooting attempts.
9 Review the cabling connections for each module. If you need to disconnect the cables to remove or
replace a FRU, consider labeling the cables so you can reconnect them correctly.
10 When you are ready to service the library, determine which partitions you will need to take offline, if any.
11 Contact the library administrator to schedule a time to take the partitions offline, if necessary. Before
taking the library offline, ask the administrator to complete or cancel any jobs that are in the queue.
12 Power off the library or take just the affected partitions offline, as suggested by Table 9
on page 141.
13 Add, remove, and replace each part, as necessary.
Consider testing the library after servicing each part (for details, refer to the next step). Doing this can
greatly reduce the time it may take to troubleshoot the library if a problem occurs.
14 After servicing the library (and preferably after servicing each part), power on the library and test it
thoroughly. Using the remote Web client, run the Installation Verification Test to ensure that the entire
library functions as expected. For details, see Using the Installation Verification Test
on page 16.
15 When you finish adding, removing, and replacing all necessary parts, return all partitions to online.
16 Close all relevant RAS tickets.
17 Verify that the host applications can communicate with the library.
18 Save the library configuration. For details, see Saving and Restoring the Configuration
on page 12.
CRU and FRU Listings
Each electrical and non-static mechanical components of the library is either a CRU or a FRU. A CRU is a
component that customers can remove or replace themselves, whereas a FRU is a component that only
service personnel should remove or replace. When servicing a FRU, you may also need to service a CRU.
Table 10
lists the library’s CRUs and FRUs, and the page on which the part is discussed.
IVT is optimized for library firmware versions 520G and above and libraries
built after July 1, 2008 (serial numbers with last four digits 8602 and
above).
• If your library was built on or before July 1, 2008, and you are running
firmware version 520G or later, you will not be able to run the IVT test,
even though the selection is available.
• If your library was built on or before July 1, 2008, and you are running
firmware version 500G or earlier, you can run the test, but it is not
recommended because it may produce erroneous results.
