PowerVault ML6000 Maintenance Guide 187
Replacing the Cable Spool
1 Make sure that all cables are out of the way, and thread the cable spool cable through the oval hole in
the chassis. Insert the cable spool’s studs into the side of the module.
2 Tighten the screw (which you loosened earlier) to secure the cable spool into place.
3 Reconnect the cable spool cable.
4 Attach a new zip tie to secure the cable spool’s cables to the chassis. Securing the zip tie ensures that
the cables are not accidentally damaged when you remove the tape drives and power supplies.
5 Replace the tape columns in their proper locations.
When replacing the columns, replace the rear column first, then the middle column, and finally the front
column. For more instructions on removing the columns, see Removing and Replacing Columns
on
page 189.
6 Reattach the cable spool clip to the Y-carriage assembly, using the thumbscrew on the cable spool clip.
Use the T10 TORX screwdriver to tighten the thumbscrew until the attached lock washers compress.
Do not over-tighten, as overtightening could break the thumbscrew.
7 Replace the robot assembly in the library, ensuring that it is level, following the instructions in Installing
the Model 1 and Model 2 Robot Assemblies in the Library on page 171.
The external appearance of the cable spool on your library may differ
slightly from the one shown in the figure below. However, the fit, function,
and location of the studs, screw, and cable are the same.
Tape columns must be replaced in their original locations, because
each column has fiducial indices that help to guide the picker
assembly. Consider labeling the tape columns so you can be sure
that you replace them in their original locations. Otherwise, the
library’s self-test will fail.
Do not support the Y-carriage assembly by the thin metal rod. Lifting
the assembly by the thin metal rod will bend the rod.
