T091 - TapeAlert 56 – Unload Failure
Description GUI Description: The tape drive encountered a problem while unloading a

Explanation: When attempting to unload a tape cartridge, a tape drive (brick)
hardware malfunction can prevent the tape cartridge from being ejected. The
tape cartridge may actually be stuck in the tape drive.
Detection Scenarios After unsuccessfully attempting to unload a tape cartridge, the drive generates
a TapeAlert 56.
Root Causes • A drive hardware error that prevents the tape cartridge from being unloaded.
• A damaged tape cartridge that cannot be unloaded from the tape drive.
Service Resolution
Steps
1 Perform DR078 - Resolve Tape Load/Unload Failure
on page 401.
2Use the Details option in the RAS ticket to identify the suspect tape drive
sled. Open the main door and inspect the drive for any stuck media. If media
is present, attempt an emergency power-on reset by holding the eject button
down for 5 seconds, which will reset the drive and attempt to eject the media.
3 Clear all RAS tickets and retry the original operation with another piece of
known good media.
