414 Troubleshooting the Tape Library
Media removal is expected whenever an exported tape cartridge has been physically removed by
an operator from an I/E area element.
Media removal is NOT expected if a tape cartridge was previously detected in a storage, drive, or
I/E element without having been exported/moved by the robot to a respective I/E area element for
operator access and removal.
1 If the media removal was expected, I/E area elements may be available for operator-initiated tape
cartridge insert/import operations.
2 If the media removal was unexpected, tape cartridge removal authorization may need to be validated.
3 To view which tape cartridges have been removed, select the Media Security Log from the Reports >
Log Viewer menu selection.
4 You have three options:
a. Select Close to close the ticket now.
b. Select Exit to leave the ticket open for future troubleshooting.
c. Select Back to return to the Diagnostic Resolution.
DR110 - Resolve Drive Control Failure
This DR provides customer resolution steps for T153 on page 349.
Problem: A tape drive reported that a specific configuration request could not be enabled or disabled.
1 Note the ticket’s drive sled coordinate and reason details, then close this ticket.
2 If the reason details indicate an encryption configuration failure, perform the following operations before
continuing with Step 4
:
a. Make sure the referenced tape drive is not loaded with a tape cartridge. If a tape cartridge is
present, unload the drive.
b. Verify that the tape drive firmware version is at least at the firmware version referenced in the
release notes for the currently installed library firmware version. Update the tape drive firmware
if a newer version is required.
3 If the reason details indicate a connectivity or communication issue, verify that the drive is properly
installed and connected. Check for other drive-related tickets and resolve such tickets before continuing
with the resolutions steps below.
4 Consult your user documentation regarding a drive reset operation or drive sled removal and
replacement procedure.
5 Either perform a drive reset operation, or remove the drive sled, wait 30 seconds, and then re-insert and
secure the same drive sled back in its drive bay location.
6 Wait for the drive to initialize and become ready.
7 If this ticket is not reported again, and the previous reason details indicated an encryption configuration
failure, perform the following operations:
a. From the remote user interface, view the library configuration by selecting Reports > Library
Configuration.
b. Click on the respective drive coordinate and verify that the drive encryption method is set
correctly.
8 If this ticket is generated again, contact Service for further assistance.
