How to Determine Which Robot Your Library Contains
Physical Indicators
• 5U Library Control Module chassis part number, visible on the label on the lower rear center of the
5U Library Control Module:
• The part number of the 5U Library Control Module chassis that contains Model 1 robots is 8-
00389-xx.
• The part number of the 5U Library Control Module chassis that contains Model 2 robots is 8-
00534-xx.
• Model 2 robot label: Model 2 robots have an “M2” label located on the front of the Y-carriage
assembly, visible from outside the library.
• Physical appearance: The Model 2 robot has a large PCB (called the robot controller board) on the
Y-carriage assembly. It also looks different (for pictures, see Robot Assembly
on page 442).
Software Indicators
• Operator panel Tools > About Library screen: Libraries containing a Model 2 robot have a line item
called "Robot FW." Libraries containing Model 1 robots do not have this line item.
• Web client Reports > System Information screen: Libraries containing a Model 2 robot show a
listing for "Robot Firmware Version" in the Physical Library section of the page. Libraries containing
Model 1 robots do not have this listing.
• Snapshot/log files: The “Robot Firmware” entry noted above is contained in snapshots and logs for
libraries containing Model 2 robots. Libraries with Model 1 robots do not have the "robot firmware"
entry.
• RAS tickets: For all robot-related tickets, new “Element Type Specific” and “Element Type
Description” values denote the robot type, as follows:
FRU Replacement Strategy For Model 1 and Model 2 Robots
Model 1 Robot — You receive either a picker assembly FRU or a Y-carriage assembly FRU, or both. You
may replace one or the other, or you may build them into a complete robot assembly and replace it as a
single unit.
Model 2 Robot — You receive one FRU (a complete robot assembly), which you must replace as a single
unit. Do not take apart the robot assembly and attempt to replace individual components.
Removing the Model 1 and Model 2 Robot Assemblies from the
Library
This instruction covers both the Model 1 robot and the Model 2 robots. Differences are noted where they
exist. If a process step is the same for both types of robots, a figure may show only the Model 1 robot or
component, but the action it illustrates is still correct.
