(7) Install the power steering fluid supply hose
onto the supply fitting on power steering pump (Fig.
10). When installing the hose clamp on the
power steering fluid return hose be sure the
clamp is installed past the upset bead on the
nipple of the power steering fluid reservoir.
(8) Lower vehicle.
(9) Connect the battery ground cable onto the
ground stud located on the strut tower.
CAUTION: Do not use automatic transmission fluid
in this vehicles power steering system. Only use
Mopar Power Steering Fluid, or equivalent.
(10) Perform Power Steering Pump Initial Opera-
tion procedure which can be found in the Power
Steering Pump section of this group, to properly refill
and bleed power steering system.
POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR
(3.2L/3.5L Engine)
NOTE: Before proceeding, review SERVICE WARN-
INGS AND CAUTIONS found at the beginning of the
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION section.
The power steering pump fluid reservoir on this
vehicle with these engine applications is remotely
mounted from the power steering pump (Fig. 14).
The reservoir is located on the left front frame rail.
REMOVAL
(1) Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a
frame contact type hoist. See Hoisting in the Lubri-
cation and Maintenance section of this manual for
the required lifting procedure to be used for this
vehicle.
(2) Remove the power steering return hose from
the side of the power steering fluid reservoir. Remove
the power steering fluid supply hose going to the
power steering pump from the bottom of the power
steering fluid reservoir. Let power steering fluid
drain from hoses and reservoir.
(3) Lower the vehicle.
(4) Remove the power steering fluid reservoir from
the mounting bracket by rotating the rear of the res-
ervoir toward the engine and out of the bracket.
INSTALLATION
(1) Install the power steering fluid reservoir into
the mounting bracket. Be sure the retaining tab on
the bracket is holding the reservoir in the bracket.
Fasten screw to 12 N·m (105 in. lbs.).
(2) Raise vehicle.
(3) Install the power steering return hose onto the
nipple on the side of the power steering fluid reser-
voir. Install the power steering fluid supply hose
going to the power steering pump, on the bottom nip-
ple of the power steering fluid reservoir. Install the
hose clamps, being sure they are past the hose reten-
tion beads on reservoir nipples.
(4) Lower vehicle.
CAUTION: Do not use automatic transmission fluid
in power steering system. Only use Mopar Power
Steering Fluid, or equivalent.
(5) Fill the power steering pump reservoir to cor-
rect fluid level.
(6) Start engine and turn steering wheel several
times from stop to stop to bleed air from fluid in sys-
tem. Stop engine, check fluid level, and inspect sys-
tem for leaks. See Checking Fluid Level.
DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY
POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR (2.7L
ENGINE)
REMOVE
The 2.7 liter engine uses a power steering fluid
reservoir that is integral to the power steering pump.
To replace the power steering fluid reservoir used on
this power steering pump the power steering pump
will need to be removed from the engine.
