Configuring MAC Authentication
Purpose
Toreview,disable,enableandconfigureMACauthentication.Thisauthenticationmethodallows
thedevicetoauthenticatesourceMA Caddressesinanexchangewithanauthenticationserver.
Theauthenticator(switch)sel ectsasourceMACseenonaMAC‐authenticationenabledportand
submitsittoabackendclientforauthentication.Thebackend
clientusestheMACaddressstored
password,ifrequired,ascredentialsforanauthenticationattempt.Ifaccepted,astring
representinganaccesspolicyand/orVLANauthorizationmaybereturned.Ifpresent,theswitch
appliestheassociatedpolicyrulesandVLANsegmentation.
YoucanspecifyamasktoapplytoMACaddresses
whenauthenticatingusersthroughaRADIUS
server(see“setmacauthenticationsignificant‐bits ”onpage 22‐35).Themostcommonuseof
significantbitmasksisforauthenticationofallMACaddressesforaspecificvendor.
