Configuring Switches in a Stack
ThischapterprovidesinformationaboutconfiguringSecureStackB3switchesinastack.
About SecureStack B3 Switch Operation in a Stack
TheSecureStackB3productsarestackableswitchesthatcanbeadap tedandscaledtohelpmeet
yournetworkneeds.Theseswitchesprovideamanagementplatformanduplinktoanetwork
backboneforastackedgroupofuptoeightSecureStackB3switches.
Onceinstalledinastack,thesw itchesbehaveand
performasasingleswitchproduct.Assuch,
youcanstartwithasingleunitandaddmoreunitsasyournetworkexpands.Youcanalsomix
differentproductsinthefamilyinasinglestacktoprovideadesiredcombinationofporttypes
andfunctionstomatchtherequirements
ofindividualapplications.Inallcases,astackofunits
performsasonelargeproduct,andismanagedasasinglenetworkentity.
WhenswitchesareinstalledandconnectedasdescribedintheSecureStackB3InstallationGuides,
thefollowingoccursduringinitialization:
•Theswitchthatwillmanagethestackisautomaticallyestablished.
Thisisknownasthe
managerswitch.
•Allotherswitchesareestablishedasmembersinthestack.
•Thehierarchyoftheswitchesthatwillassumethefunctionofbackupmanagerisalso
determinedincasethecurrentmanagermalfunctions,ispowereddown,orisdisconnected
fromthestack.
