Basic hardware procedures
Component LEDs
Ê
Check the component LEDs on the system board and the server rear (see
section "Connectors and indicators" on page 549).

In addition to local diagnostic indicators, CSS or Global Error LEDs
indicate, if the defective component is a customer replaceable unit or if a
service technician needs to be dispatched to replace the part (see
section "Determining the error class" on page 56).
If the system has been powered off to replace a non hot-plug unit, a
system of PRIMERGY diagnostics indicators guides you to the faulty
component.
4.2 Shutting down the server

For further safety information, please refer to chapter "Important
information" on page 43.

This step is only required when upgrading or replacing non-hot plug
components.

Inform the system administrator that the server will be shut down and put
offline.
Ê
Terminate all applications.
Ê
Perform the required procedures described in the preliminary steps of each
upgrade or maintenance task.
Ê
Shut down the server.
I
If the system is running an ACPI-compliant operating system,
pressing the On/Off button will perform a graceful shutdown.
Ê
Switch on the ID indicator on the front and rear connector panels of the
server as described in section "Locating the defective server" on page 55.
