2.7.1 Pediatric Radiaon Guidelines
When performing pediatric radiaon, you should follow these guidelines:
Follow the guidelines provided in Radiaon Safety (page 22).
Do not radiate when it is not necessary. Use a non-ionizing radiaon modality whenever possible
(for example, ultrasound).
Remove any objects in the beam that are not radiolucent or that are not necessary to perform the
procedure (for example, maresses, pillows, tubes).
Select the correct paent type and the correct examinaon protocol for the anatomy.
Select the lowest uoroscopy avor with the lowest dose.
Posion the detector as close as possible to the paent.
Use electronic zoom instead of detector zoom.
Use collimaon as much as possible to protect areas outside the region of interest. Exclude eyes,
thyroid, breast, and gonads when possible. When possible, perform collimaon on the Last Image
Hold image. Use semi-permeable wedges.
Consider using Fluoro Store as an alternave to acquision.
Radiate for the shortest me possible, use the Last Image Hold image to review the anatomy rather
than live uoroscopy.
Before you use the equipment for pediatric cases, Philips recommends reviewing generally available
resources on pediatric imaging, such as the following:
