A Summary: New Features for
R&S SMU200A Users
The R&S SMW introduces new features in the R&S Signal Generators family. If you
have used an R&S SMU or other R&S Vector Signal Generator before, you may find
the summary information in the following sections and the comparison to the R&S SMU
useful.
To gain a better overview of the new functionality, refer to the configuration examples
in Chapter 2.3, "Trying Out the Instrument", on page 66. The following sections are a
short summary for experienced R&S SMU users.
During this section, we use the R&S SMU as an example instrument that represents
the vector signal generators family.
A.1 Improvements in the Manual Operation
●
The R&S SMW is equipped with a modern touchscreen.
You can operate the instrument completely from the touchscreen. This makes
interaction with the user interface easy and fast.
●
The touchscreen provides an alternative way to control blocks and dialog boxes,
and to change instrument settings.
Tap a function field like "RF Freq" or "Level" and enter the value in the input field
that appears.
●
If you however prefer to use the front panel keys and/or the rotary knob, you can
use one of the following modes:
– Exclusive operation from the touchscreen
– Exclusive operation by front panel keys and/or the rotary knob, as you perform
this in a signal generator like R&S SMU.
– Mixed operation by combining both operation possibilities, possibly also with a
connected mouse.
●
To access important functions or dialogs directly by one tap, use also the provided
hot spots. There are several of them on the block diagram, like:
– Icons
– Connectors
– Underlined text labels
