Ethernet MAC Controller
The on-board Ethernet Media Access Controller (EMAC) is compatible with IEEE 802.3,
and has passed the University of New Hampshire (UNH) testing. It supports both 10- and
100-Mbit/s transfer rates, and full and half duplex operation. Other features include:
Transmit and receive FIFOs
Media Independent Interface (MII) to the physical layer
Physical layer management through Management Data I/O (MDIO) interface
Support for:
half-duplex flow control by forcing collisions on incoming frames
full-duplex flow control with recognition of incoming pause frames and hardware
generation of transmitted pause frames
802.Q VLAN tagging with recognition of incoming VLAN and priority tagged frames
multiple buffers per receive and transmit frame
APB interface
AHB bus master DMA interface to external system memory
Interrupt generation for receive and transmit completion
Statistics counter registers for Remote Monitoring (RMON) and Management
Information Base (MIB)
Automatic pad and CRC generation on transmitted frames
Automatic discarding of frames received with errors
Address checking logic supports up to four specific (hardware) 48-bit addresses
Promiscuous mode support where all valid received frames are copied to memory
Hash matching of unicast and multicast destination addresses
Serial network interface operation
Software programmable MAC address
Jumbo frames of up to 10,240 bytes supported.
