To connect the instrument and the external trigger source
1. Use a suitable cable to connect the external trigger source to the USER 3 connec-
tor of the R&S SMW, see Figure 2-10.

The Figure 2-10 depicts the location of the connectors and explains the connection
as principle. In practice, you would rather "substitute" the analyzer by a DUT, like a
base station (BS). The DUT is the source for the reference signal and sends for
example a frame trigger signal to the R&S SMW, the R&S SMW acts still as the
signal source.
