Oscillography, Events, and SER
Oscillography
file determines the data translation. Refer to the IEEE Standard Common
Format for Transient Data Exchange (COMTRADE) for Power Systems, IEEE
C37.111–1999 for more information. Many programs read the binary
COMTRADE files. These programs include the
ACSELERATOR Analytic
Assistant and the
ACSELERATOR QuickSet.
Generating Raw Data Oscillograms
To use high-resolution raw data oscillography, select the type of triggering
event and use a trigger event method described in Triggering Data Captures
and Event Reports. Use the settings SRATE, LER, and PRE to set the relay for
the appropriate data sampling rate and data capture time (see Duration of Data
Captures and Event Reports).
Retrieving Raw Data Oscillograms
Use a computer terminal emulation program and the FILE commands at any
communications port to retrieve the stored high-resolution raw data capture
from the relay file structure. You can also use
ACSELERATOR QuickSet.
Traveling Wave Data
Oscillography
Traveling wave oscillography records power system signals that are in the kHz
spectrum. These high-frequency signals originate from power system
occurrences such as faults, switching transients, and lightning strikes.
Traveling wave COMTRADE data files include traveling wave current signals
(TWIAW, TWIBW, TWICW, TWIAX, TWIBX, and TWICX) and traveling
wave fault detector bits (TWFDA, TWFDB, TWFDC, and TWFD). TWFD is
the OR combination of the per-phase traveling wave fault detector bits.
The relay stores traveling wave data oscillography in binary format and uses
COMTRADE file types to output these data:

➤ .CFG—configuration file
➤ .DAT—high-resolution raw data file
.HDR File
The .HDR file contains summary information about the event in ASCII format
along with traveling wave settings and local traveling wave peak information.
Figure 8.6 shows the COMTRADE header file.
