Step 1 Using 100-ohm shielded BITS clock cable pair #22 or #24 AWG (0.51 mm² or 0.64 mm²) twisted-pair 
T1-type wires, wrap the alarm wires on the appropriate wire-wrap pins according to local site practice. 
Ground the shield of the BITS Input cable at the BITS end. For BITS Output, wrap the ground shield of 
the BITS cable to the frame ground pin (FG1) located below the column of BITS pins.
Figure 1-21 shows alarm pin assignments for the AIC-I in the Release 3.4 or higher ONS 15454 
backplane, and Figure 1-22 calls out the external alarm pins on that backplane.

1. The Cisco ONS 15454 ETSI is DCE.
Purpose This task installs alarm wires on the backplane so that you can provision 
external (environmental) alarms and controls with the AIC or AIC-I card. 
If you are using the AEP, do not perform this task.
