Chapter 10 Manage the Node
DLP-G178 Apply a Manual Y-Cable or Splitter Protection Switch
DLP-G178 Apply a Manual Y-Cable or Splitter Protection Switch
Caution A Manual switch will move traffic from the active to the standby card only if network conditions permit
it. If conditions change during the switch, CTC will attempt to place traffic back on the original active
card.
Step 1 In node view, click the Maintenance > Protection tabs.
Step 2 In the Protection Groups list, click the Y-cable or splitter protection group where you want to apply the
Manual protection switch.
Step 3 In the Selected Group area, click the active card or port.
Step 4 In the Switch Commands drop-down list, click Manual.
Step 5 In the Confirm Manual Operation dialog box, click Ye s .
If conditions permit, the Manual switch will be applied. To clear the Manual switch, see the “DLP-G180
Clear a Manual or Force Y-Cable or Splitter Protection Switch” task on page 10-36.
Step 6 Return to your originating procedure (NTP).
DLP-G179 Apply a Force Y-Cable or Splitter Protection Switch
Caution A Force switch will move traffic from the active to the standby card or port immediately, regardless of
network conditions. The switch will remain in effect until it is cleared.
Step 1 In node view, click the Maintenance > Protection tabs.
Step 2 In the Protection Groups list, click the Y-cable or splitter protection group where you want to apply the
Force protection switch.
Purpose This task performs a Manual protection switch on a Y-cable or splitter
protection group.
