If no backup interfaces have been configured, add backup interfaces as needed. For more information, refer to
Section14.2.4.2, “Adding a Link Failover Backup Interface”.
Section14.2.4.2
Adding a Link Failover Backup Interface
To set a link failover backup interface, do the following:
1. Make sure the CLI is in Configuration mode.
2. Add the backup interface by typing:
services link-failover interface backup backup-interface
Where:
interface is the name of the interface
backup-interface is the name of the secondary, backup interface
3. Configure the following parameter(s) as required:
NOTE
Do not configure the backup-gateway parameter for Point to Point (P2P) links.
NOTE
The on-demand parameter is set at the interface itself.
Parameter Description
priority { priority } Synopsis:  { third, second, first }
Default:  first
The priority which is applied to the backup interface when switching.
transfer-default-route The transfer default gateway on the switching main and backup interface. The default
route on the device must have a distance greater than one.
backup-gateway { backup-gateway } Synopsis:  A string 1 to 15 characters long
The IP address of the backup gateway.
on-demand Synopsis:  { true, false }
Displays the status of the interface's On-demand option. When enabled, link failover can
set the interface to up or down as needed. The interface is down until needed by link
failover. When disabled, link failover cannot set the interface to up or down. By default,
the interface is always up.
