This chapter describes how to protect document data.
Preventing Unauthorized Copying
This section explains the security functions that protect documents from unauthorized copying and
prevent information leaks.
Unauthorized Copy Prevention
If this machine copies, faxes, scans, or stores in Document Server a document in which an anti-copy
pattern or text (such as "No Copying") has been embedded by a device using a copy prevention
function, the machine will reproduce the pattern or text at visible resolution to discourage unauthorized
copying.
• This machine cannot embed reproducible anti-copy patterns or text.
• Unauthorized copy prevention discourages unauthorized copying, but will not necessarily stop
information leaks.
• The embedded pattern cannot be guaranteed to be copied, faxed, scanned, or stored properly in
the Document Server.
• Depending on the machine and scanner settings, the embedded pattern may not be copied, faxed,
scanned, or stored in the Document Server.

A background image and a pattern for unauthorized copy prevention are embedded.
2. The document is copied, faxed, scanned, or stored in the Document Server.
