MANUAL VERSION 11.0 – May 2008
IP-Related Information
• Echo Suppression Sensitivity Level: Select the threshold at which the system sup-
presses the echo from the far end at the beginning of a conversation. A value closer to
zero results in very little echo suppression (full duplex), and a value closer to 100%
results in a large amount of echo suppression (half duplex). To change the suppression
sensitivity level, click the current Value and use the scroll box to select the new value.
Then press
ENTER or click another field to save the change. The range is 0-100%, and
the default is 60%.
• Minimum Playback Time: Enter the minimum time, in milliseconds, that packets wait
in the receive buffer before the system plays the audio. The higher this number, the
more latency in the signal; however, it is less likely that network problems like jitter
would cause lost or late audio packets. The lower the minimum playback time, the less
latency there is in the signal; however, there is a greater chance of jitter. To change the
playback time, click the current Value and use the scroll box to select the new value.
Then press
ENTER or click another field to save the change. The range is 1-320 ms, and
the default is 80 ms.
• Transmit DTMF Level: Defines the level at which the system injects tone onto the
backplane when receiving an out-of-band DTMF tone. Your options are U.S.A., U.K., or
Japan. To change the country, click the current Value and use the drop-down box to
select the new value. Then press
ENTER or click another field to save the change. The
Extended Value and dB columns automatically update to reflect the values associated
with the country. By default, this is the country associated with the language selected in
the Session Manager.
• DTMF Encoding Setting: Select the vocoder type used to send DTMF. Your options
are G-711 Mu-Law, G-711 A-Law, G-729, G-729B (VAD), and RFC 2833. For MGCP
gateways and endpoints, this value must either match the Speech Encoding Setting field
or be set to RFC 2833. By default, this is G.711 Mu-Law.
• Speech Encoding Setting: Select the vocoder that the system uses when transmitting
speech data. The options are G.711 Mu-Law, G. 7 11 A - L a w, G.729, and G. 7 2 9 B ( VA D ) .
For MGCP gateways and endpoints, if the DTMF Encoding Setting is set to RFC 2833,
set this value to either G.729 or G.711; if the DTMF Encoding Setting is set to G.729 or
G.711, this value must match (i.e., be set to G.729 or G.711). To change the vocoder,
click the current Value and use the drop-down box to select the new vocoder. Then
press
ENTER or click another field to save the change. The default is G.729.
NOTE: For MGCP gateways and endpoints, the DTMF Encoding Setting cannot be set
to G.711 while the Speech Encoding Setting is set to G.729 (and vice versa). If set
incorrectly, users will not be able to dial DTMF tones while on a call.
• Echo Suppression: Determines if callers hear echo while the canceller adapts. If
enabled (set to Yes), the conversation is played in half-duplex mode for a short period of
time while the system adapts the echo canceller based on audio characteristics. If dis-
abled (set to No), callers may hear echo while the canceller adapts. To disable the flag,
select the current Value and then click the check box to remove the check mark. Then
press
ENTER or select another field to save the change. (To add the check mark and
enable the flag, select the check box again.) By default, this is enabled.
• Echo Saturation Blocker: Determines if the system switches to half-duplex mode
when the volume becomes very loud. If enabled (set to Yes), the conversation is played
in half-duplex mode when the volume increases to a certain level. If disabled (set to
No), the system always plays the conversation in full-duplex mode. To disable the flag,
select the current Value and then click the check box to remove the check mark. Then
press
ENTER or select another field to save the change. (To add the check mark and
enable the flag, select the check box again.) By default, this is enabled.
