Network Groups
H. NETWORK GROUPS
NOTE: To have IP endpoints communicate via P2P to MGCP/SIP gateways, place the IP end-
points and MGCP/SIP trunks (gateway and endpoints) in the same Network Group.
4.103 Network Groups define the IP devices that can communicate via P2P audio (see page 6-
183 for details). When you assign an IP device (including SIP endpoints and MGCP/SIP gate-
ways and endpoints) to a circuit, the device is automatically added to the default Network
Group (PP029). This Network Group is not programmed for P2P audio and is not configurable.
To use P2P audio, you must assign the IP devices to a Network Group that is programmed to
support the feature. Before you assign IP devices to a Network Group, however, you must
make sure the hardware is properly upgraded.
NOTE: You cannot delete the default Network Group.
Hardware Upgrade
4.104 P2P audio requires that you upgrade the IPRC and IP devices (IP phones and IP SLAs)
to the latest version of firmware (v8.1). In addition, each node that will use P2P audio must be
running software version 8.1 or later.
4.105 To upgrade the hardware:
1. If using more than 16 devices, install the 32-device daughter card on the IPRC.
2. Run the Upload Utility and upload the latest firmware to the IPRC.
3. Use the Upload Utility to upload the latest firmware to all IP devices that will use P2P
audio.
NOTE: For details about using the Upload Utility to upgrade IP devices, see page 3-178.
CAUTION
Inter-Tel recommends that you run the Network Qualifier (for at least 24 hours) to determine
if the network meets the minimum requirements identified for P2P audio. These require-
ments are the same as those identified for IP private networking, which is described on
page 2-94.
