Introduction

TROUBLE-
SHOOTING
1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 This section of the manual describes the troubleshooting procedures to follow in the
event of a system or station instrument malfunction. System repair is limited to replacing parts
(phones, circuit cards, cables, power supply, etc.).
2. TROUBLESHOOTING CHECKLIST
2.1 To save time, perform the troubleshooting procedures in the following order:
1. Check for proper light-emitting diode (LED) indications on the circuit cards (see Figure
7-2 beginning on page 7-5).
2. Check the alarm message output (see page 7-12 to 7-25).
2.2 Isolate the problem and see the appropriate troubleshooting chart (see page 7-26).
3. LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) INDICATIONS
3.1 LEDs on the front edge of the circuit cards and the ATM Switch indicate specific func-
tions. Figure 7-2 starting on page 7-5 lists the various LEDs and describes their purposes.
A. CIRCUIT CARD LEDS
3.2 If the CPU ACTIVE LED on the CPC or CPU Card is flashing (or if referred to this
page to isolate a problem), follow these procedures to check the system voltages:
1. Turn OFF the AC power.
2. Remove the CPC or CPU Card and check to make sure that all of the components on
the card are properly seated and that no pins are bent. Also, check to make sure that the
two parts of the combined card are securely attached, and make sure that the connectors
and stand-offs are properly aligned and seated.
3. Wait 10 seconds and re-insert the card.
4. Turn ON the AC power.
5. If the CPU ACTIVE LED is still flashing (or if the problem still persists):
a. Observe the LEDs on the front of the power supply unit. All of the LEDs should
be lit. If any of the LEDs are blinking or are unlit, the power supply is defective
and the entire unit must be replaced (see page 3-80 or page 3-89 for details).
CAUTION
Some of the cards and cables inside the Voice Processing PC may have been spot-glued
into place to help prevent them from working loose during shipment. To remove one of these
cards or cables from the PC (if necessary), first break the glue seal by gently wiggling the
connector with a pair of pliers.
CAUTION
Always turn OFF the AC POWER before removing or inserting the CPC or CPU Card.
