Reliability and Robustness
D. RELIABILITY AND ROBUSTNESS
54.29 The following features are included with system software v9.0 and later. These features
are included in the system features troubleshooting table on page 7-27.
54.30 Periodic Diagnostics: Monitors and reconciles system resources and checks for and
fixes static database corruptions. This option in DB Studio is available in On-Line Monitor
(OLM) mode only. Periodic Diagnostics is responsible for two areas of the system: system
resources and the static database. Periodic Diagnostics checks/reconciles/repairs the following:
• DTMF receivers
• Caller ID receivers and transmitters
• Speakerphone resources
• Connection IDs
• Voice channels
• VoIP resources
• System hardware
• Static database
• Off-node device information
• Unassociated mailbox information
• Temporary extensions
NOTE: Do not use OLM mode unless you are instructed to do so by support personnel.
54.31 Enhanced Exception Handling: For v9.0 and later, critical areas of the system have
enhanced exception handling to prevent the system from performing a major reset. Any input
message to the hardware system that causes an exception to occur is now deleted. Similarly,
any message that is processed by Call Processing which causes a software exception, is also
deleted. Although these enhancements made to exception handling may cause devices to time
out waiting for responses, it reduces the occurrence of major resets.
NOTE: The system may still perform a major reset if multiple minor resets occur and the sys-
tem cannot overcome them.
54.32 Elimination of Scheduled Delayed Major Resets: Prior to v9.0, when certain pro-
gramming changes were made to the database, the system required a major reset. If the pro-
gramming changes were done via DB Studio, a pop-up dialog box displayed the reset options.
If the programming changes were done via an administrator’s endpoint, the reset options were
presented on the endpoint’s display. The technician or administrator could choose to complete
an immediate major reset or schedule a delayed major reset. The delayed major reset option
allowed the technician or administrator to schedule a reset to occur when the system was not in
use.
54.33 In v9.0 and later, certain programming changes no longer require a major reset. These
programming changes include the following:
• Changing extensions
• Swapping extensions
• Creating off-node devices
