O. SYSTEM SERIAL PORTS
4.270 This section is used for determining the functions of the system serial ports. Serial ports
can be used for the following purposes:
Voice Processor port
System OAI ports
SMDR port and backup port
Message printing port and backup port
4.271 Serial ports are located on the CPCs and CPU cards. They can also be configured on the
OPC and on digital display phones with PCDPMs. There can be up to 32 system serial ports.
4.272 Each serial port has the following programmable fields:
Description
System OAI Ports
Bit Rate
Hardware and Software Handshaking
Autobaud
4.273 The Port number and Address are not programmable. They are shown for your refer-
ence. Program the fields as follows:
4.274 Description: If desired, you can give the port a description to designate its assigned
connection. To enter the description, select the current Value and enter the information in the
text box. Then press
ENTER or select another field to save the change.
4.275 System OAI Ports: This field has three possible settings: Level 2, Level 2 w/EFP, and
None. The serial ports in the “None” category are available for use by the other serial port
functions. The other two levels determine the system OAI protocol level used by the serial
ports, as described below. Refer to the System OAI Protocol Manual for further information.
NOTE: If available, a socket connection is recommended for System OAI Level 2. (System
versions 6.0 and later no longer support System OAI Level 1.)
4.276 To set the System OAI Port level, select the current Value and use the drop-down list to
scroll to the desired setting. Then press
ENTER or select another field to save the change.
Level 2: The bidirectional support enhanced protocol is running, using the RS232 inter-
face.
Level 2 w/EFP: The TSAPI support enhanced protocol is running, with Inter-Tel EFP
as the second layer protocol instead of RS232.
NOTE: These ports cannot be used as system programming serial ports even though you may
be able to log on to them as such (the monitor displays “Awaiting ASAI Connection” and eventu-
ally times out). Also, do not assign all available ports to System OAI (leave at least one port for
system programming).
4.277 Bit Rate: This field is used to set the bit per second (bps) rate of the serial port to match
the configuration of external devices to which they will be attached (such as printers, PCs,
etc.). To set the bit rate, select the current Value and use the drop-down list to scroll to the
desired setting. Then press
ENTER or select another field to save the change.
