10. CIRCUIT CARD INSTALLATION
10.1 The information in this section includes instructions about how to install the various cir-
cuit cards in the cabinet. With the exception of the CPC, CPU cards, and the Network Clock
Card, the circuit cards can be installed in any card slot.
A. NETWORK CLOCK CARD (NCC)
NOTE: If upgrading from a CPU64 or CPU128 to a CPC, you must first remove any Network
Clock Cards (NCCs) from the chassis’s backplane before installing the CPC. If you do not
remove NCCs from the backplane, the system continually resets. Also, because the CPC and
CPU020 cards have built-in NCC functionality, NCCs are not required for version 8.0 and later
systems.
10.2 If any optional T1, E1/PRI, or T1/E1/PRI cards are to be installed in an equipment
using the CPU64/128 card configuration, a NCC must also be attached to the chassis back-
plane. To allow adequate room for installation, it is best to install the NCC before installing the
CPU card.
NOTE: Do not install an NCC in chassis equipped with a CPU020/PCM card or CPC; it could
cause T1 or E1 timing problems. If one is accidently installed, the programming PC displays a
warning.
1.
Ensure all integrated circuits and components on the card are seated securely in their
sockets and that no pins are bent.
2. Make sure the power supply's AC POWER switch is turned OFF. Installing the NCC
with the power on may damage the circuitry on the card.
3. Install the NCC with the components facing left in the expanded chassis connector slot
(J10) on the far right side of the chassis backplane. (See backplane drawing on page 3-
79.)
NOTE: When two basic chassis are attached together to form a dual-chassis system,
the NCC is installed only in the second (right-hand) chassis, as viewed from the front.
4.
Turn OFF the AC POWER switch.
CAUTION
The cards and components are static-sensitive. Handle the cards by the edges only and
keep them in their protective bags until they are to be installed. Do not bend or touch the
pins of the components or subject them to a static discharge. When working with the cards,
use a properly terminated anti-static wrist strap and cover the work surface with the bag that
protected the card during shipping. Any static discharge (no matter how small) must be dis-
charged from the body before touching the cards or components. The warranty for this
equipment does not cover damage caused by static or mishandling. Cards or components
damaged in such a manner cannot be replaced.
