Inter-Tel Database Test and Repair Utility
PROGRAMMING
6
6. INTER-TEL DATABASE TEST AND REPAIR UTILITY
6.1 The Inter-Tel Database Test and Repair Utility tests databases for corruption. In most
cases, it is able to repair the corruption.
6.2 You can choose among eight tests to run. Each test can be enabled for testing only, or it
can be enabled for test and repair.
A. RUN A TEST
1. Enter the path and name of the database (.axx) file in the Database To Test field. (Or,
you can use the Browse button to locate the file.)
2. Do one of the following:
Select the Test to run from the list of tests in the left pane of the window. Then
select
Enable or Enable/Repair from the Test drop-down menu.
To run all tests, select
Enable All or Enable/Repair All from the Test drop-down
menu.
3. If desired, set the options for the test by selecting Options from the File drop-down
menu.
4. Select Start Testing from the File drop-down menu. The results of the test are shown in
the right pane of the window.
5. If you want to save the results to a file, select Save Results from the File drop-down
menu.
NOTE: These tests do not find all of the corruptions that are possible. However, they cover a
large number of them. Frequently found corruptions are described in Common Errors. If the
Repair function is enabled and the repair status is Not Repaired, the program was unable to fix
the problem. In that case, contact Inter-Tel for assistance. Sometimes, a repair can cause
another corruption. If this happens and the required test has not been run, DB Test will notify
you that another test needs to be run to repair the new corruption. One example would be a sta-
tion with a 0.0.0 hardware address. The Hardware Address test will fix the problem by deleting
the station. However, the Referential Integrity test must run in order to delete the references to
this station. There are a few errors that DB Test detects but is unable to repair. If you come
across such an error, contact Technical Support for assistance.
When the Database Test and Repair utility makes a repair by deleting records, it is possible for
further corruption to be generated. All of the corruption can be removed by running the proper
test. For example, if extension 1000 was deleted because of a major corruption, all references
to extension 1000 would still be in the database. The Referential Integrity test would be able to
clean up these references. Therefore, once the repairs are made, the utility may warn you that
other tests/repairs need to be run in order for clean up to occur. If the proper test automatically
runs after the deletion occurs, then no warning will be necessary since the test has already run.
However, you will notice additional error messages as the new corruption is repaired.
CAUTION
If repairs are enabled, the given database will be modified. Therefore, you must make a
backup copy of your database before running this program. This will give you a backup copy
in case the repairs were undesirable.
