MANUAL VERSION 11.0 – May 2008
Upload Utility
NOTE: If used, Save/Restore will take longer to perform via modem than with a direct connec-
tion due to the slower bit rate. If the Restore function is used, the associated system reset,
when completed, will disconnect all calls including the modem connection.
2.15 If the modem connection is lost during the programming session, allow a minute for the
system modem to reset, then re-establish the call. All changes that were saved by a system
update before the connection was lost will be retained in phone system memory.
2.16 Troubleshooting Modem Connections: If the modem is not connecting to the phone
system, try the tips listed below.
1. Try running the Windows Hyperterminal program under the Accessories menu. The
modem may not be configured properly if Hyperterminal is unable to dial out.
2. Lower the Maximum speed in the modem settings to 9600.
3. Select Connection in the modem settings dialog. Select Advanced and type “X1” in
the Extra settings entry. Sometimes this setting is necessary to tell the modem to disable
dial tone detection. Some PBXs do not transmit the dial tone signal in the format the
modem is expecting.
4. Generate a modem log file and review it for clues to the problem. Select Connection in
the modem settings dialog. Select
Advanced and check the box labeled “Record a log
file.” When you check this box, Windows then creates a log file named Modemlog.txt
in the directory where Windows is installed. This is useful for monitoring calls and for
troubleshooting.
NOTE: For Windows NT, the name of the log file is ModemLog_name of modem.txt
where name of modem is the actual name of the modem you are using (e.g.,
ModemLog_U.S. Robotics 56K Voice Win.txt).
5.
Check to be sure that DB Programming is set up according to the phone system modem
kit instructions.
6. The modem connected to the phone system may need to be reprogrammed. Please see
the Inter-Tel modem kit instructions for more details on this operation.
3. UPLOAD UTILITY
3.1 The Upload Utility allows you to upload different versions of software to board or IP
devices. If necessary, you can upload software to multiple IP devices at once.
3.2 In addition, you can save your settings so that you do not have to configure information
for every upload. For example, you can create an entry used strictly for IPRCs on Node 2, or,
you can also create one for all hard IP endpoints, such as the Model 8660, in your network.
NOTE: Inter-Tel recommends that you upgrade the firmware on the IP endpoints BEFORE you
upgrade the IPRC. If you upgrade the IPRC first, the endpoints will not be able to connect to the
IPRC, but they will continuously try. During these connection attempts, the Upload Utility will not
be able to connect with the endpoints.
3.3 For complete information about the Upload Utility, refer to the Inter-Tel Upload Utility
online help.
