MANUAL VERSION 11.0 – May 2008
IP Devices Programming Guidelines
E. IP DEVICES PROGRAMMING GUIDELINES
NOTE: Prior to v9.0, the 8.x firmware IPRC could be used for private networking or for IP
devices, as determined by the configuration chosen in DB Studio. The v9.0 and later firmware
IPRC supports both private networking and IP devices on the same card.
Programming IP Devices
1.12 This section describes how to program the v8.1 and later firmware IPRC for use with IP
devices. Unlike the v1.x firmware device IPRC, you do not program the v8.1 or later firmware
IPRC as a DKSC-16.
1. Program the equipment chassis slot where the IPRC is installed as an IPRC (see page 6-
145).
2. Select the IP extension used to access the IP port on the card and click OK. This exten-
sion must be unique.
NOTE: Inter-Tel strongly recommends that you use a universal numbering plan when
programming IP connections. The convention of P6nnc where nn is the node number
and c is the IPRC number is recommended. For example, for the second IPRC on node
3, you would use P6032, and the first IPRC on node 2 would be P6021.
3.
Program the Voice Resources: Program one or more voice resources as a IP Endpoint
(see page 6-146).
4. Program the IP Connection information for the IPRC (System\Cabinets\<IPRC>\IP
Connection) as described on page 6-172.
NOTE: Inter-Tel recommends that you use the default port settings when possible.
5.
Program the IP devices (see page 6-147).
6. Program the devices to use P2P audio, if desired. See page 6-183 for details.
Programming the Model 8602 IP Softphone
1.13 To program the Model 8602:
NOTE: A Category B software license (part number 840.0415) and a headset for audio are
required to support the Model 8602. IP softphones cannot have attached devices, such as DSS/
BLF units.
1. Ensure an Internet Protocol Resource Card (IPRC) is installed on the system.
2. Double-click the Devices under System\Cabinets\IPRC.
NOTICE
The IP SoftPhone requires v1.x firmware and is not supported by IPRCs that have v8.1 or
later firmware. Other IP endpoints, such as the Model 8660 Phone, however, require the 8.1
or later IPRCs to support the new features. The Model 8602 IP softphone requires IPRC
firmware v9.0.0 or later. For these reasons, Inter-Tel recommends that you do not connect
IP SoftPhones and other IP endpoints to the same IPRC. If you do, you may lose feature or
phone functionality.
